NICP Operations Supervisor
We currently have 2 openings for Operations Supervisors on the NIGHT SHIFT at our North Ice Cream Plant in Le Mars, Iowa.
These individuals are responsible for day-to-day supervision of assigned teams of employees who perform specific tasks as part of the NICP production
operations activities in a food manufacturing environment. Responsible for communicating expectations, managing accountability and delivering desired
results in the areas of safety, quality, delivery and cost. Assures employees complete tasks in accordance with relevant company and legislative food
safety and food quality requirements.
Primary responsibilities may include:
Utilize and manage the necessary resources and processes across functions to achieve designated performance goals. Take ownership for the results of
the operation from end-to-end by working within assigned team, as well as, across shifts and cross-functionally with departments that impact the
desired results of the operation.
Administer standards of work to ensure employees consistently, safely and effectively perform assigned tasks and responsibilities in accordance with
established SOPs/Standard Work and document as required. Take ownership of the training and qualification process of all direct reports.
Optimize labor schedules to ensure appropriate coverage in support of attainment goals and labor budget. Work proactively to minimize schedule changes
and balance the needs of the operation.
Support and maintain a continuous improvement (CI) culture across assigned work teams; serve as a leader of change. Actively identify opportunities to
optimize cost structure in the areas of materials, scheduling, labor, etc. managing daily improvement (MDI).
Monitor quality activities within the manufacturing processes to prevent quality failures and ensure compliance with plant manufacturing control
programs (e.g., QMS) as well as company policies, food manufacturing GMPs, and relevant food safety regulations.
Communicate openly and effectively with assigned teams on a regular, frequent basis to ensure awareness and understanding of important information
impacting the individual, team or operation.
Follow and enforce required safety policies, promote and acknowledge safe behavior and appropriately address safety-related concerns. Foster peer to
peer safety accountability.
Develop and build capability of people as individuals and teams through a variety of techniques and tools focused on motivation, teamwork, mentoring
and coaching. Drive individual accountability and ownership of results. Foster peer to peer accountability in the areas of safety, quality, delivery
In addition to the responsibilities listed above, other duties may be assigned by your manager as dictated by business necessity.
Qualified applicants should possess a Bachelors degree with preference given to those having current or prior supervisory experience in the food products
The pay grade for this position is 32, 33 or 34, commensurate with experience. The incentive band is B.

Operations Professional Development Program (OPDP)
The OPDP is a comprehensive development program which targets the early development of college graduates seeking a challenging entry-level position in a manufacturing environment. The programs purpose is to develop new and exceptional leaders who are prepared to confront and overcome the everyday challenges of Supply Chain management with innovative and creative solutions at Wells.
OPDP is a one-year program consisting of a series of rotations cycles throughout manufacturing operations, which allows the candidate to learn the proven aspects of people leadership in a food manufacturing environment. The focus will be on learning how to employ strong leadership and functional skills in such areas as continuous improvement/lean manufacturing, food production, material handling and processing and inventory storage and distribution. A strong emphasis will be placed on learning how to use continuous improvement methods within the work environment that lead to process improvements and cost savings.
Candidates who successfully complete the program will be placed in one of the following operational areas based on the needs of the business, availability of positions, and the candidate¿s discipline of preference, (Logistics, Manufacturing, Food Science, and Engineering):
- Manufacturing Supervision
- Freezer/Logistics Supervision
- Materials Management Supervision
- Food Quality/Food Safety Supervision
- Maintenance Supervision
Candidates of the OPDP program have the opportunity to learn the entire supply chain at Wells beginning with the inception of raw materials to the distribution of our finished good products reaching the customers. Exposure to our world class facilities and modern manufacturing technology will allow the candidate to learn leading edge processes in food manufacturing and distribution. Learning events and activities will include curriculum such as: Leadership Development, Continuous Improvement/Lean methodology, Environmental Health and Safety, Supply Chain Management, Business Acumen and Project Management. Outcomes of the Wells rotational program will result in a candidate¿s strong understanding of the food manufacturing/distribution process and how to lead and manage people effectively in a condensed and rapid transfer of leadership and management principles. Additionally, a candidate will have networking opportunities by advancing through the rotational program with other members of their class along with working closely with a senior member of the organization in a mentoring relationship helping the candidate develop into a stronger business professional.
- A four year degree in Business, Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Logistics Management or Food Science
- GPA greater than or equal to 3.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Unrestricted authorization to work in US
- Relocation to Le Mars, IA required to enroll and complete the program
Program Completion Requirements
- A one year commitment within the organization in a supervisory role is required upon successful completion of the program.
- Shift assignment can include; dayshift, evening shift, (early afternoon to late evening) or overnight shift, (late evening to early morning. This is dependent on shift availability and business need.
