A Sprinkle in Time
More than 80 years ago, Blue Bunny® set out to create the most fun, playful, delicious ice cream. The rest, as they say, is history.
1913
Fred H. Wells pays $250 to a local dairy farmer for a horse, delivery wagon, a few cans and jars, and the goodwill of the business. His investment covered the milk distribution route and guaranteed Wells a source of raw milk from a herd of just 15 milk cows. (A drop in the bucket compared to now!)
1935

Blue Bunny is born when the Wells brothers hold a “Name that Ice Cream” contest looking for a brand for their ice cream. A Sioux City man submitted “Blue Bunny” and his rendition of the original logo (known as Blu®) and won a whopping $25. (Hey, that was a big deal back then!)
1982

Time for a change: Blue Bunny updates their logo for the first time in almost 70 years. How refreshing!
1994
LeMars is named Ice Cream Capital of the World.
1996

We don’t just keep the milk fresh around here. Blue Bunny updates their logo again, which is used for the next 20 years.
2008

Blue Bunny teams up with The Jimmie Johnson Foundation to launch the Blue Bunny Helmet of Hope. The program gifts education-focused charities a $25,000 grant, a Blue Bunny ice cream party, and special recognition on Johnson’s race helmet.
2011
The Blue Bunny Parlor moves into a 12,000 sq. ft. renovated building on Main Street.
